Rub Bug

When you talk about culture, tradition, more often than one, you end up talking about India. It is one country with so much of rich history. If you go through the museums and paintings and watch movie that have taken historical theme as their subject, in all you will find one thing in common. In each and every scene and paintings, you will find the rich use of carpets, colour, and vibrancy. You can feel the energy and try to visualise the lifestyle that they used to live. The life then lived was really king size. And talking about carpets, the art of carpet weaving could be traced back to the great Akbar. He was the Mughal emperor who patronised this craft by bringing in Persian weavers. Thereby starting a revolution of sort. With innumerable designs, all hand drawn and in inimitable style, soon the carpet or rugs gained popularity and cut borders to spread across to many parts of world. It led to spread of trade and made India a stand out in the world map. But then the process of making carpet from the designing to the ultimate final product took at least 30 days. It was fine in that time to invest 30 days for a product but today, you cannot imagine spending 30 days for this. This is when the advancement of technology caught up with the rug making, be it cheap rugs or the area rugs, all started to be made by machine. And the rub bug soon hit everyone world over and that was a danger sign for the hand weavers who found it hard to switch. But then they never die off and upgraded themselves. But there are many who still prefer the hand-tufted carpets keeping alive the traditional craft for now.
